This topic contains information about key features and improvements in the .NET Framework version 4. This topic does not provide comprehensive information about all new features and is subject to change. This article summarizes key new features and improvements in the following versions of the .NET Framework:

.NET Framework 4.5.2
.NET Framework 4.5.1
.NET Framework 4.5

.Net framework features :-

  • CLR
  • JIT
  • CTS
  • MSIL
  • Garbage Collection

1. Common Language Runtime (CLR)

The CLR is a major component of the .NET framework. CLR also is known as the Virtual Execution System        (VES). A process known as just-in-time compilation converts compiled code into machine instructions which the computer’s CPU then executes. The World’s most comprehensive professionally edited abbreviations and acronyms database.

2. Just in time(JIT)

5220010108001Just in time is a production strategy that strives to improve a business’ return on investment by reducing in-process inventory and associated carrying costs. Just in time is a type of operations management approach which originated in Japan in the 1950s. JIT‘ An inventory strategy companies employ to increase efficiency and decrease waste by receiving goods only as they are needed in the manufacturing process, thereby decreasing stock costs.

3. Common Type System (CTS)

The Common Type System (CTS) is a standard for defining and using data types in the .NETframework. CTS is basically an online image-based cheque clearing system where cheque images and Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) data are captured at the collecting bank branch and transmitted electronically. Truncation means, stopping the flow of the physical cheques issued by a drawer to the drawee branch.

4. Microsoft Intermediate Language(MSIL)

MSIL are simple binary structures that are similar to the instruction sets of the CPU. Microsoft Intermediate Language converts the source code into intermediate language and then machine code by JIT Compiler . MSIL contains metadata that is the key to cross language interoperability. Since this meta-data is consistent across all .NET languages, a program written in one language can understand the metadata and perform code, written in a different language. MSIL contains guidelines for running, saving, initializing, and contacting methods on things, as well as guidelines for mathematics and sensible functions, control flow, direct memory access, exemption managing, and other functions.

5. Garbage Collection

A garbage collector performs periodic checks on the managed heap to identify objects that are no longer required by the program and removes them from memory. The purpose of Garbage Collection is to recover or reorganise system resources such as available blocks of RAM to prevent failure due to resource starvation.
